It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Description of Work Salary Range: $35,984 - $62,971 Reporting to the Correctional Programs Supervisor, this position will carry a caseload of male medium custody level offenders which involves supportive counseling, answering and following up on questions and problems, and making recommendations to the classification committee. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: - Assisting in major dynamic programs or coordinating major specialized programs for the rehabilitation of offenders such as offender work assignments, work release, education, or recreation; as well as transition planning and coordinating. - Working under stressful conditions caused by direct contact with incarcerated offenders who can become physically violent and verbally abusive. - Conducting continuous visual and audio surveillance of assigned work area. - Operating various office machines accurately. - Preparing written reports and forms reflecting accurate information reviewed from various sources. - Demonstrating and instructing offenders in the proper and safe use of tools, equipment, and supplies. - Reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating various documents and behavioral data gathered from interviews, written documentation, and personal observations. - Performing crisis intervention and routine counseling, to include suicide prevention. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences Knowledge of supportive counseling techniques Necessary Special Qualifications: MUST be eligible for certification by the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education & Training Standards Commission. Note to Current State Employees: The salary grade for this position is NC07.
