POSITION SUMMARY:

The Senior Cost Accountant is responsible for performing complex cost accounting functions, including preparing cost reports, analyzing variances, and ensuring accurate inventory valuation. This role works closely with operations, supply chain, and finance teams to support strategic business decisions through accurate cost analysis and reporting.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in cost accounting or related financial roles; manufacturing or construction experience is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and cost accounting principles.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with cross-functional teams and present financial data effectively.

PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Experience with standard costing systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Ability to lead or mentor junior accounting staff.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, implement, and maintain cost accounting systems, procedures, and policies.
  • Analyze production costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
  • Perform month-end close activities including journal entries, inventory reconciliation, and cost roll-ups.
  • Conduct inventory analysis and ensure proper valuation of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Track cost of goods sold (COGS) and identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and operations teams to analyze labor, material, and overhead variances.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes related to cost.
  • Support audits and provide documentation related to inventory and costing.
  • Lead annual standard cost updates and cost revaluation processes.
  • Provide financial analysis and support for capital investment projects and new product costing.
