JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cost Accountant will be responsible for analyzing and managing the financial costs associated with our trucking operations, with a focus on asset depreciation, cost allocation, and financial reporting. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with strong analytical skills and a deep understanding of cost accounting principles to ensure accurate financial data and informed decision-making.

SKILLS NEEDED

• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and tax regulations related to depreciation.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar ERP systems) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
• Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
• Knowledge of the trucking industry, including operational cost drivers, is highly desirable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification is a plus.
• Minimum of 4 years of cost accounting experience, preferably in the transportation, logistics, or trucking industry.
• Proven expertise in asset depreciation methods (e.g., straight-line, declining balance) and fixed asset management.

• Perform detailed cost analysis for trucking operations, including fuel, maintenance, labor, and equipment costs.
• Calculate and manage asset depreciation schedules for the company’s fleet of trucks and related equipment, ensuring compliance with GAAP and tax regulations.
• Develop and maintain cost accounting systems, processes, and procedures to track and allocate expenses accurately.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including variance analysis and cost forecasts.
• Collaborate with operations and management teams to identify cost-saving opportunities and improve financial performance.
• Monitor and analyze transportation-related expenses, such as driver wages, vehicle maintenance, and fuel consumption, to optimize operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insights into cost trends and projections.
• Support external audits by preparing necessary documentation and schedules related to cost accounting and asset depreciation.
• Maintain accurate records of fixed assets, including acquisitions, disposals, and depreciation calculations.
