Description

The Cost Accountant focuses on cost accounting, financial analysis, and reporting for material and product costs. Key tasks include analyzing actual vs. standard costs, supporting budgets and forecasts, estimating new product costs, and conducting cost-benefit analyses. The role involves optimizing costs, managing inventory counts, and working closely with the Controller, Accounting team, and other departments.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Strong experience in reporting research results, requirements analysis, and financial management, with expertise in job/process costing, standard costing, and developing cost standards.
Demonstrates excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities, along with outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills.
Capable of working independently, managing multiple tasks, and meeting deadlines effectively.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with at least 5 years of cost accounting experience with inventory in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong background in cost systems and analytics, with preferred experience collaborating with manufacturing teams on cost standard development and analysis.
  • Experience with NetSuite manufacturing ERP is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Establish standard costs and collect operational data to determine the cost of operations.
  • Analyze manufacturing costs, comparing actual production costs to standards, and prepare periodic reports.
  • Assess the impact of changes in product design, raw materials, manufacturing methods, or services on costs.
  • Maintain and update standard costs in bills of materials, ensuring accuracy and identifying discrepancies.
  • Validate cost of goods sold as part of the month-end close, reconciling transactions and correcting data as needed.
  • Apply and reconcile overhead costs in compliance with GAAP.
  • Assist with physical inventory counts, investigate cycle count variances, and resolve related issues.
  • Collaborate with the materials review board to identify and manage obsolete inventory.
  • Compare actual results with plans and forecasts, guiding cost analysis through policies, procedures, and actionable recommendations.
  • Conduct process constraint analyses and monitor trends and techniques for improvement.
  • Maintain the cost accounting system, assist in the month-end close, and reconcile inventory for finished goods and work in progress.
  • Compile project costs, analyze variances, and provide insights into cost trends.
  • Stay updated on technical knowledge by attending workshops and reviewing relevant publications.
