SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE

The Cost Accountant is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting financial data related to production costs, inventory, and profitability. This role ensures accuracy in cost allocation, supports budgeting and forecasting, and provides management with insights to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s in Business, Accounting or Finance or significant relevant work experience.
  • Strong knowledge of computer programs; Microsoft Excel, QuickBooks, AS/400, MAPICS, or other financial type software
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and costing principles

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • 3+ years’ experience in Accounting, manufacturing experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and analyze product cost standards for materials, labor, and overhead.
  • Prepare and analyze cost variance reports, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Monitor and reconcile cost of goods sold (COGS) accounts.
  • Track, analyze, and report on manufacturing costs and production efficiencies.
  • Monitor and ensure accuracy in inventory valuation and costing methods.
  • Provide cost data and analysis to support strategic decision-making.
  • Prepare and maintain financial statements, reports, and records in accordance with applicable regulations.
  • Conduct monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, including reconciliations.
  • Generate PPV reports and analyze findings.
  • Analyze cost of raw materials and other supplies and create cost-benefit analyses for changing vendors.
  • Establish standard costs and update them as appropriate.
  • Any/all other duties as assigned.
