POSITION SUMMARY:

The Cost Accountant will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of related budget reports. The role requires collaboration within the accounting team as well as with various groups of the operations and sales teams.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • 2+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Expert Microsoft Office skills to include Excel and related computer applications
  • Thorough understanding of accounting procedures
  • Proven detail attentiveness, organizational, analytical, and time management skills
  • Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
  • Ability to manage confidential information
  • Work in a manufacturing office environment
  • Shift Hours: 7AM - 4PM (On-Site; No remote work available)

Responsibilities
  • Reviews work order transactions to identify costing errors
  • Analyzes cost variance analysis and compares actual to system standards
  • Performs analysis on labor and burden rates and suggests modifications when needed
  • Assists operations with ad hoc analysis on special projects
  • Assists with month-end and year-end inventories
  • Performs monthly reporting on key performance indicators
  • Executes various reports on machine utilization, efficiency, and production volumes
  • Prepares or assists in preparing the forms and documents used in capital project budget preparation
  • Reviews and analyzes actual costs to identify inaccuracies
  • Spearheads process improvement to aid in making costing more accurate
  • Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual profit margins
  • Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance
  • Determines and recommends cost-effective solutions
  • Provides product costing for pricing and business decisions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
