Job Title: Cost Controller
Location: Vancouver, BC (100% On-Site)
Employment Type: 12-Month Contract, with Possible Extension
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 40 hours/week
Pay Rate: $45-60/hour

OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced Cost Controller to support the financial oversight of a major engineering/construction project within the mining sector. In this role, you will ensure accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in managing Owner’s Cost accounts, while providing insightful analysis to support decision-making.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or equivalent education/experience.
  • Minimum 5 years’ cost management experience, ideally on large-scale mining projects in an owner’s team capacity.
  • Knowledge of cost management best practices (AACEI, PMI, etc.).
  • Proficiency in cost management systems; experience with PM+ or Prism preferred.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel and MS Access.
  • Strong SAP experience.
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
  • Commercially astute with strong cost analysis skills; claims management and productivity analysis experience is an asset.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Familiarity with multiple contracting models (unit rate, lump sum, reimbursable).
  • Adaptable and able to perform under demanding conditions.

Responsibilities
  • Review and recommend actions on Owner’s Cost accounts, ensuring compliance with best practices and internal procedures.
  • Evaluate purchase requisitions to confirm alignment with project scope, budget, and cost coding.
  • Assess and provide recommendations on Change Requests, Change Orders, and potential changes.
  • Develop, manage, and report on Owner’s costs, including periodic and ad-hoc cost reports.
  • Review and recommend payment certificates for approval.
  • Analyze and track cost variations, risks, and trends; prepare cost flow forecasts.
  • Conduct detailed analysis on Project Change Notices (PCNs) to estimate trends and forecast final costs.
  • Create and hand over efficient forecasting models to support various contract strategies.
  • Maintain up-to-date system data and ensure data integrity.
  • Prepare weekly, monthly, and ad-hoc reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Project Controls Manager.
