Job Title: Cost Engineer
Location: Sizewell Power Station, Suffolk (Flexible working between office and home; occasional UK travel)
Salary: Up to £75,000 per annum plus package
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Cost Engineer to join our Project Management Resource team supporting multiple projects within a UK-wide portfolio, with a particular focus on nuclear defueling and decommissioning. You will be based at Sizewell Power Station, working closely with project controls and operations managers to monitor, control, and forecast costs throughout the project lifecycle.
As Cost Engineer, you will not have direct reports but will work as part of a wider project delivery team. This role demands strong organisational skills, excellent communication, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships in a highly regulated, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive cost management support throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring accurate forecasting, budgeting, and cost control.
- Monitor and reconcile cost data against project programmes, identifying variances and initiating corrective actions as required.
- Produce monthly cost reports and deliver intelligent, insightful cost analyses to senior management on a defined reporting cycle.
- Collaborate closely with project controls, procurement, engineering, and operations teams to ensure alignment between time, cost, and commercial aspects.
- Utilise Primavera P6 for scheduling and programme analysis in support of cost forecasting.
- Engage SAP Finance and Project modules to input, track, and report financial transactions and cost postings accurately.
- Apply Earned Value Analysis (EVA) methodologies to track project performance and provide early warnings of cost overruns or schedule variances.
- Use estimating, scheduling, programming, and risk-analysis tools to assess cost implications of scope changes and project risks.
- Maintain a strong safety culture by adhering to all site-specific regulations, procedures, and high safety standards at all times.
- Travel occasionally to other UK project sites/stations to support cost reviews, audits, or integrated project milestones.
Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Minimum HNC/HND (ideally in a cost-related discipline) or equivalent relevant experience; Membership of the Association for Cost Engineers (MACostE) is highly desirable.
- Project Lifecycle Experience: Demonstrable involvement in all phases of the project lifecycle (Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation/Commissioning), ideally within a nuclear or similarly regulated environment.
- Cost Management Skills: Proven ability to reconcile and validate cost information; strong understanding of the interrelationship between time, cost, and commercial factors.
- Software Proficiency:
- Primavera P6 (latest version) for scheduling and programme management.
- SAP Finance and Project modules (creation of cost centres, progress postings, month-end reporting).
- Estimating and risk-analysis tools (including proficient use of Earned Value techniques).
- Communication & Interpersonal: Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to present cost data clearly to all levels of management.
- Safety & Compliance: Experience working in high-safety, regulated industries (nuclear, energy, defense, etc.) with a demonstrable track record of adhering to rigorous safety standards.
- Teamwork & Organisation: Strong organisational abilities; results-focused mindset balanced with a collaborative, team-oriented approach.
