Job Summary
The Cost Management Lead is a pivotal role within EP&S Project Management, responsible for overseeing and directing all aspects of cost planning, management, and control throughout the project lifecycle. This individual ensures robust financial stewardship by developing and maintaining comprehensive cost databases, preparing accurate estimates, and facilitating sound financial decisions aligned with organizational goals.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
None.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect and analyze cost proposals from vendors, contractors, and suppliers to build and maintain a reliable cost database for use in various types of project estimates.
  • Develop and produce multiple classes of cost estimates to support business cases, financial investment decisions, change order evaluation, scenario analysis, and project planning activities.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and stakeholders to ensure cost accuracy and transparency throughout all phases of construction projects.
  • Monitor actual project costs versus budget, identify variances, and recommend corrective actions as required.
  • Support the review and validation of change orders, providing independent cost assessments and justifications.
  • Prepare periodic cost reports and present financial insights to leadership and project teams.
  • Lead and participate in value engineering exercises to ensure project scope and solutions align with budget targets, promoting cost-effective alternatives and maximizing value for stakeholders.
  • Continuously improve estimating tools, methods, and processes, driving efficiency and accuracy in cost management practices.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with a proven ability to interpret complex data and develop actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adept at working with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard estimating and cost management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Finance, Quantity Surveying, or a related field, and/or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in construction cost management, estimating, or project controls within the engineering or construction industry is required.
  • Regulated utility industry experience preferred.
  • Industry-related professional certification preferred, such as CCP(AACE), MRICS or FRICS (RICS), PMP(PMI), or project controls or cost engineering.
  • Travel up to 25%

This position offers a hybrid work environment, permitted remote work in conjunction with a partial in company office work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
