ABOUT US

At the Department of Opportunities and Social Development (OSD), we are a large and diverse department providing a broad portfolio of programs and services including Child and Family Wellbeing (CFW), Employment Support Services(ESS), Income Assistance (IA), Homelessness and Supportive Housing, and Disability Support Program(DSP).
Through our services, we advocate and help vulnerable Nova Scotians be independent, self-reliant, and secure. We work collaboratively across the province with a strong dedicated network of supports and staff, to achieve desired and shared outcomes for all.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

As the team lead, you will:

  • Consult with team members and fellow Supervisors to provide guidance and support.
  • Monitor team performance and actively engage in coaching and performance development to ensure success and client service excellence.
  • Contribute to the development and review of case plans as well as monitor the progress of case plans to ensure their effectiveness.
  • Establish and promote strong relationships with team members, Supervisors, clients, families, and departmental staff to enhance service delivery.
  • Assist Regional Service Delivery Managers in developing procedures and activities to maintain program consistency.
  • Ensure the well-being of access services.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

You have completed a Child & Youth Care Worker diploma from a provincially approved post-secondary institution, along with three (3) years of related experience.

You must have in-depth knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, guidelines, occupational health and safety practices, and crisis intervention techniques. You must also demonstate:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office programs
  • The ability to lead, motivate, and ensure a strong, collaborative, team working environment.
  • Communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Sound judgment and strong initiative

The following are considered desirable assets including:

  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with case management systems and working within an adjusted work hour environment
  • Expeirence with child welfare, early childhood development, crisis services, and supporting persons with disabilities/ addictions.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.
