Student Counselling Services at the University of Winnipeg seeks an experienced Counsellor to provide a wide variety of personal counselling services to our students within a diverse, academic setting. This role will serve as the designated Counsellor for students referred by the Sexual Violence Response Team (SVRT).
Student Counselling Services offers a goal-oriented, time-limited service where students can address difficulties and dilemmas that impact their sense of well-being during their university studies. Student Counselling Services provides individual and small group counselling services and a crisis response, as needed, to students who are dealing with personal and mental health issues. Counsellors work within a shared care, collaborative model along with clinicians from other agencies.

Responsibilities
  • Provides intake, assessment, care planning, individual and group counselling around a range of issues.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to a student centered, trauma informed and culturally sensitive, anti-oppressive, inclusive and holistic framework.
  • Works within a shared cared setting, using a stepped care model to support student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Responds to students in distress or crisis, and assesses, intervenes, liaises and refers students to other supports or services, as appropriate.
  • Provides advocacy on behalf of students’ expressed needs with internal and external contacts.
  • Collaborates with colleagues around health and wellness promotion for the campus.
  • Provides support, consultation, clinical intervention around disclosures of sexual violence.
  • Provides direct sexual violence counselling and collaborates closely with the Sexual Violence Response Team (SVRT).
  • Offers consultation to staff and faculty related to student mental health and wellbeing.
  • Responds to requests and offers education to students, faculty, staff as requested in the form of workshops, presentations, and meetings.
  • Consults with students, staff, faculty, and off-campus community agencies as it relates to building awareness and capacity on student mental health and wellbeing.
