Why this role matters
The Salvation Army Australia’s Homelessness Stream provides high-quality, person-centred services to people at risk, and or experiencing homelessness. We support adults and families, including accompanying children with accommodation, case management, outreach support, financial assistance, connection and referral to other specialist services.
The purpose of the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Counsellor to provide support in the expansion of our new service.
The Counsellor will provide intensive counselling support and case management services to participants of the transitional supported accommodation program who are exiting hospital care, and who are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. This role will work collaboratively with the Program Manager, other program staff and external health partners to deliver a supported holistic case plan that assists clients to develop independent living skills, tenancy capacity and supports the transition into independent housing.
This is a permanent, part-time position. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS award, level 5.

You will successfully

  • Respond to referrals in a timely manner and conduct intake and assessments for new clients as required.
  • Develop and build strong working relationships and working protocols in line with leadership with external stakeholders.
  • Implement a flexible, proactive, trauma informed, and client-centred approach to support clients and ensure rights are upheld, interactions are respectful and free from discrimination, with cultural safety at the centre.
  • Provide counselling and undertake case management tasks to support allocated caseload of clients
  • Undertake all aspects of case management including developing individualised care plans with clients and supporting clients to access a range of services including health, housing, and other supports.
  • Provide brief intervention, and case management support, dependent on need, inclusive of assessment, referrals, regular communication, and meetings, to ensure support for client’s holistic needs.

You will have (Requisite Skills & Qualifications)

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in health or social Sciences
  • Minimum of 2 years case management experience in a similar role
  • Understanding of Trauma Informed Care and what it looks like in practice.
  • Knowledge and experience within the homelessness and mental health sector.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring other staff in a team environment.
  • A current SA driver’s license.
