QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications: Masters in Counselling Psychology, Clinical Mental Health Counselling, or related field (must be eligible for accreditation with SAC or equivalent).
Experience: 3 years and above years in counselling, preferably with cases which are involved in child protection, trauma or out of home care and have worked with children, youth or families.

SKILLS:

  • Training in modalities like Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (or other trauma modalities), Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Play Therapy.
  • Ability to engage clients with complex needs.
  • No supervisory responsibilities—focus on direct client work.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a compassionate Counsellor to provide therapeutic support to children, youth, and families in our residential care and community programs. A large majority of our children and youth have a history of abuse, neglect, trauma or have a parent incarcerated. This role emphasises emotional support, skill-building, and crisis intervention in a collaborative team environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide counselling and psychoeducation to clients (child, youth or family) dealing with trauma, family conflict, and behavioural challenges.
  • Facilitate therapeutic groups (e.g., coping skills, social-emotional learning).
  • Work closely with social workers and psychologists to implement care plans.
  • Document sessions and contribute to case reviews.
  • Support crisis intervention and de-escalation as needed.
