St. Anne Institute Job Description   I. TITLE:                                    Counselor – Crisis Residence “The Beacon”   II. SUPERVISOR:                       Assistant Program Administrator- Crisis Residence   III. HOURS PER WEEK:              20-40; includes days, afternoons, evenings and weekends, and holidays   IV. QUALIFICATIONS:               BA or BS in field of Human Services preferred; two years in related  area required. Experience may be substituted for degree requirements.   V. REQUIREMENTS:                Compassionate and empathetic approach to working with youth. Ability             to handle stressful situations calmly and effectively. Must be able to meet written, physical and life space interview testing standards as outlined by therapeutic crisis interventions curriculum.   VI. FUNCTIONS:                         To create a safe and secure environment, helping youth gain self- control, aid in emotion regulation, and develop positive social skills.      VII. RESPONSIBILITIES: Service Provision * Implement agency practices including policies, procedures, Crisis Residence routine and expectations, as directed by the Crisis Residence Assistant Program Administrator. “Routine” refers to recreational activities, group meetings, meals, bedtimes, and any additional program activities. * Ensure a clean, safe, therapeutic and healthy environment within the Crisis Residence. * Provide supervision of youth, ensuring opportunities to teach and role model, during all aspects of agency programming.  * Facilitate group meetings and activities with youth, both on and off campus, including potential outings.   * Transport youth in the authorized St. Anne Institute van to medical services or appointments as needed to increase their sense of health, well-being and safety. * Foster appropriate adult/child relationships; maintain appropriate boundaries.   Documentation * Use open, honest, effective, professional communication skills, both verbally and in writing.   * Assist in the intake/admissions process for potential Crisis Residence youth as indicated. * Ensure assigned paperwork is thorough and accurate.   Training * Attend training in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention and use the techniques to prevent and intervene in crisis situations, which may include physical intervention when needed.  * Attend all other required trainings.   Coordination * Attend and contribute to all scheduled meetings including weekly staff meetings, supervision meetings, in-service meetings, and other meetings as directed by the Crisis Residence Assistant Program Administrator. * Maintain relationships with law enforcement, health providers or other outside agencies that may provide services or referrals.   General * Abide by the NYS Justice Center, Office of Mental Health, and the SAI Codes of Conduct/Ethics. * Perform any additional responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Program Administrator. * This position may work across all direct care programs to accommodate fluctuations in staffing.   I have read and understand my job description duties:       Counselor – Crisis Residence “The Beacon”   Employee Signature:                                                                                                                          Date:                                         Print Name:                                                                                                                              Supervisor Signature:                                                                                                                         Date:
