Johnson & Johnson is recruiting for a Country Medical Affairs Lead for Hungary, to be based in Budapest.
Purpose:
The Medical Affairs Lead contributes to the development and implementation of company objectives and strategies in designated therapy area with alignment of COMMERCIAL LEADS and HEMAR/ACCESS LEAD. Through activities in line with the HUB/IBVT strategy MAL is jointly responsible for the realization of short-term and long-term company goals. This role is crucial in providing medical and scientific leadership internally and externally, responsible for discussing our products, treatment trends and studies in the therapeutic areas in which we are involved on the level to be considered as trusted scientific counterparts. Additionally, MAL is responsible for coaching and developing MSLs and MAMs Disease scientific experts.
As a member of the Hungarian Leadership Team (HULT), the MAL will work closely to secure cross functional collaboration in the organization to achieve the company goals, and needs to be capable of representing the HULT perspective beyond its functional area.
Key responsibilities
- Provide medical vision & strategy in the respective therapeutic area.
- Be directly involved in development of strategy for the therapeutic areas.
- Manage the implementation of medical affairs activities, including proactive identification of critical paths and tracking of budget for medical projects.
- Foster an externally focused working environment. Develops & implements appropriate educational activities towards Health Care Professionals in collaboration with other internal and external partners where necessary.
- Maintain collaborative working relationship between medical affairs and internal stakeholders to deliver high quality expertise timely.
- Functioning as business partner for many different teams such as: Commercial, Market Access, Regulatory, Clinical Trials, Patients’ Engagement and Advocacy, Pharmacovigilance, etc., in the field of scientific information and medical education.
- Actively engage in cross functional collaboration beyond the country.
- Ensure that all medical activities are conducted according to all applicable guidelines, regulations, company procedures and high ethical/quality standards.
- Preparing and facilitating Company access to new TA by cross-functional work.
Internal collaboration
- Ensuring implementation of Medical Activities according to LRFP targets.
- Allocation of resources within the TAs.
- Retrieving and maintaining TA expertise within the team, meeting the needs of external and internal stake holders.
- Support MAM and ESEMs to contribute to core medical strategies and the development and implementation of the local MAF product plan.
- Build and maintain understanding of relevant company processes, systems and compliance requirements.
- Driving an active and collaborative approach to the MAF participation in all cross-functional teamwork.
- Setting clear, company strategy aligned and measurable goals for the team and each individual MAM and ESEM.
- Close collaboration and alignment with the COMMERCIAL Lead, HEMAR Lead and GAPA Lead.
External collaboration
- Building scientific alignment plan for top Leading Specialists (LS) to treat patients who need therapies.
- Cooperation/building partnership with Scientific Societies, Patient’s Organizations and external health-care in related TA.
- Provision and implementation of appropriate educational activities towards Health Care Professionals in collaboration with other internal and external partners where necessary.
- Top LS interactions during F2F meetings, Co-visits, congresses/scientific meetings and Medical Education events.
Team management & securing execution in field
- Set up and continuously lead a team of professional and highly effective collaborating ESEMs and MAMs.
- Develop Medical Affairs Plan (incl. medical strategy and budget) for the TA in line with organizational (TA) goals and gain commitment in COMERCIAL, ACCESS lead and other relevant stakeholders if relevant.
- Ensure execution of above-mentioned strategy covering all relevant MSL and MAM activities but especially core activities such as LS interactions and Medical Education
- Support and coordinate ESEM and MAMs’ involvement in trials (IIS studies, NPPs, EAPs & PSPs, RWE/Registries)
- Support MAM and ESEM in developing and maintaining close working relationships and alignment with commercial colleagues.
- Synthesize therapy knowledge and data to ensure Janssen therapy area strategy is aligned, implemented and course correct where necessary.
- Monitor competitor scientific activities to understand their ongoing strategies and discuss those with the relevant internal stakeholders.
- Collects medical insights including scientific & treatment trends and provides feedback as input for strategic TA & Medical teams.
- Coordinate and facilitate development of Brand Plan by CVT with significant MAM input. Ensure that LRFP targets are reflected in Brand Plan.
Training & individual development
- Coaching to raise individual`s self-awareness and foster consecutive skills to find problem solutions or methods/techniques to improve for oneself.
- ‘On the job’ observation & immediate feedback loops (including co-visits) to ensure that ESEM interact effectively with Leading Specialists, other HCPs and other relevant stakeholders to evaluate individual ESEMs scientific and professional engagement skills and identify areas for development.
- ‘On the job’ observation & immediate feedback loops to ensure that MAMs interact effectively with all relevant stakeholders to evaluate cross-functional work and alignment.
- Provide support to enable their team to undertake their activities. This may take the form of general or technical advice and will also include facilitating their personal development as well as facilitating progression through the organization.
- Identify and address training needs in the local organization and managing medical training process to whom it is necessary.
- Identify ESEM and MAMS knowledge and skills gaps and ensure that they have access to training and resources.
- Conduct regular Performance & Development Conversations with all direct reports to ascertain their development aspirations and training needs in line with Talent Management process at a frequency agreed among MAM and ESEM.
- Conduct G&O, Mid-year and Year End Performance Management Conversation reviews with all direct reports to discuss and set objectives, and supply ratings from end of year review by indicated in Workday due date.
