QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifications (Minimum Required):

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in Equity Studies with a focus on Urban Schools or a closely related field of study.
  • Research based knowledge of urban schools particularly in contexts serving diverse or historically marginalized student populations.
  • Demonstrated record of teaching performance and experience in teacher education or urban school contexts
  • Knowledge of and experience in school-based research or action research and critical reflective practice.
  • Familiarity with practitioner-oriented research design, data collection, and analysis methods.
  • Expertise in two or more of the following areas:

o At-risk youth and resiliency in education
o Equity studies and social justice education
o Poverty and the achievement gap
o Refugee and newcomer student experiences
o Anti-racist and anti-oppressive education
o Gender and Sexual Diversity in Education

Preferred Qualifications / Assets:

  • Doctoral studies or Ph.D. in urban education, equity and social justice, or a related field.
  • Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) certification in good standing (current or held within the last five years) or other equivalent certification.
  • Experience mentoring teacher candidates or educators.
  • Strong record of community-engaged practice or research partnerships in urban school contexts.
  • Experience designing or delivering instruction in online and blended formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to build inclusive, affirming, and equity-driven classroom spaces.
Responsibilities

You will be responsible for all activities associated with the successful delivery of the course, including but not limited to: developing, preparing, and delivering the course; setting and marking examinations, assessing the academic work of students, and reporting grades.
Candidates must be willing to undertake training as required by the Employer including, but not limited to, training in respect of health and safety, harassment and discrimination, and legislated service standards.
