REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School Diploma or GED and three years secretarial experience working in the legal field
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office and other job-related software
  • Must be familiar with family relations and juvenile delinquency court process
  • paternity and delinquency court process
  • Strong grammar, spelling, typing, vocabulary, and language skills are necessary
  • Strong understanding of legal terminology
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to handle high volume caseloads in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to use various office machinery including, but not limited to, telephone, computer, digital recording equipment, video conferencing equipment, hearing impaired equipment, digital camera, copy and fax machines
  • Ability to type 65 words per minute

Responsibilities
  • Prepares court orders and chronological case summary entries into the appropriate Case Management System.
  • Schedules court hearings.
  • Records courtroom proceedings by electronic equipment, supplemented by shorthand and/or note taking.
  • Responsible for the safekeeping of the record and all exhibits.
  • Coordinates judicial calendars, handles phone calls, and processes pleadings and correspondence from attorneys and pro se litigants.
  • Prints judges’ notes, prepares files for court, and updates the case management system with case and party information.
  • Creates a record of a trial or proceeding and is responsible for the preparation of any requested transcript of the trial, which must comply with Rule 11 of the Indiana Rules of Appellate Procedure.
  • Acts as back-up to Judicial Assistant at front reception desk as needed performing duties including, but not limited to, answering the telephone, receiving, and processing pleadings, scheduling hearings, and answering procedural questions for pro se litigants or attorneys.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned, including overtime as required.
