JOB SUMMARY

The CPI Trainer will serve as the district’s lead facilitator for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) training through the Crisis Prevention Institute. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering CPI training sessions to school staff to ensure safe, respectful, and effective responses to disruptive and crisis situations. The trainer supports a culture of safety, dignity, and collaboration within all school environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver CPI Training: Facilitate Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) trainings for school staff, including de-escalation techniques and safe physical interventions.
  • Maintain Certification: Stay current with CPI Instructure Certification and district policies related to crisis prevention and behavior management.
  • Coordinate Training Logistics: Schedule and organize regular trainings for district personnel, including substitute teachers, aides, bus drivers, and administrative staff.
  • Support Implementation: Provide on-site coaching and technical assistance following training to ensure proper implementation and adherence to CPI principles.
  • Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with administrators, counselors, and special education staff to align CPI practices with student support plans (e.g., BIPs, IEPs, 504s).
  • Document and Report: Maintain accurate training records, sign-in sheets, and certification logs for compliance and auditing purposes.
  • Evaluate Training Impact: Assess training effectiveness and recommend program improvements based on participant feedback and observed outcomes.
  • Crisis Response Support: Assist in evaluating and improving school-level crisis response protocols in alignment with CPI principles.

Required Qualifications

  • Attend the 3-day training session and become certified (requires travel and overnights).
  • Have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in education, behavioral health, school counseling, special education, or related field.
  • Possess strong communication and presentation skills.
  • Understand trauma-informed practices and behavior management

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Experience working with students with behavioral and emotional challenges.
  • Familiarity with WVDE/WVBE policies related to restraint and seclusion.

Working Conditions

  • Work is primarily performed in a school setting and/or training space.
  • Be able to demonstrate physical intervention techniques (per CPI standards).
  • Occasional travel within the district to deliver school-site trainings.
