Job Overview The Craftsman will perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of school buildings, building equipment, fixtures and grounds and facilities. Position Description Essential Duties and Responsibilities Operational Perform maintenance plumbing tasks; repair and replace leaking water faucets and drain pipes; unclog plumbing fixtures and drains Perform maintenance electrical tasks; repair and replace electrical base plugs and switches; install, repair and remove light fixtures Perform maintenance carpentry tasks; repair cabinets, counter tops, floors, carpet, tile, windows, book cases, bulletin board, tables, office furniture and other wood fixtures Perform maintenance locksmith tasks; repair and replace minor door mechanisms Assist skilled trade workers and participate in major overhauls, repairs and installation work Perform servicing and preventive maintenance tasks on playground equipment and time clocks Perform concrete work , repair side walks and any other concrete work. The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds, such as books, papers and presentation materials. The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. Attendance at conferences and professional development is required. Work involves everyday risks and discomforts which require normal safety precautions when operating equipment or performing job duties. May work prolonged or irregular hours and must be able to maintain emotional control under stress. Additional Information Work requires sufficient physical strength, dexterity, agility, and hand-eye-foot coordination to perform all essential functions, including lifting and carrying heavy objects weighing up to 50 pounds, reaching in front of body and overhead while holding objects, standing for extended periods of time, bending over equipment, crawling under equipment, working in confined spaces and in uncomfortable positions, and balancing self, materials and tools on high and/or slanted surfaces. Work is performed both inside and outside buildings and facilities and often requires working unusual hours and may be designated for 24 hour on-call. Employee is subject to adverse weather conditions, extreme temperatures and high noise levels. Employee is also exposed to potential hazards associated with cleaning chemicals, flammable liquids, and the operation of tools, equipment and machinery. Employee is required to wear and use safety clothing and equipment and to comply with safety policies and procedures.
