JOB INFORMATION: Job Title:   Crane Operator Department(s): 5016 - Container Cranes Location(s):   Terminal as assigned FLSA Status:  Non-Exempt JOB OVERVIEW: Under the supervision of the Assistant Manager of Operations, the Crane Operator operates various ship-to-shore and gantry cranes. Upholds the values of the GPA to promote Safety, Integrity, Respect, Community, Creativity and Opportunity. Promotes a safe work environment by participating in safety initiatives and reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors. JOB DUTIES: Operates all models of ship-to-shore cranes, subject to appropriate familiarization and to load and unload containers and break-bulk cargo on vessels.Maintains complete and accurate daily operation logs for ship-to-shore and gantry cranes.Knows basics of rigging procedures to ensure safety during heavy lifts.Maintains professional communication with management, co-workers, stevedores and ILA.Understands crane functions and limitations.Must be able to conduct equipment training for new and promoted employees.Inspect and secure ship-to-shore cranes before and after each work shift to ensure safe operation.Utilizes computer technology to maximize productivity safely.Keep equipment clean. JOB REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Good hand-eye coordination and depth perception skills essential.Ability to understand verbal and hand signals necessary.Ability to climb and work at high elevations up to 200ft is essential.Knowledge of rigging, safety, crane capabilities and capacities, and general working knowledge of various vessels necessary.Operates container cranes and gantry cranes to load and unload containerized and break bulk cargo.Is adept in controlling all functions such as hoist, trolley, gantry and boom motions simultaneously while in close quarters.Occasionally required to lift, move or carry up to 50 pounds.Vision requirements: Visual acuity of 20/40 with or without corrective lenses for each eye, minimum depth perception of 6/9, and minimum peripheral vision of 70 degrees for each eye.The ability to interact and communicate effectively and professionally with the GPA staff on all levels of administration including immediate supervisor, management and co-workers required.Ability to work in a team environment and commitment to customer service.
