Description
Use LS-DYNA and associated simulation tools to conduct full vehicle, subsystem & component CAE finite element analyses to optimize vehicle structure and mixed energy system integrity (ICE, HEV, EV) performance in frontal, side & rear impact. Develop design recommendations for vehicle structures and mixed energy propulsion system hardware to ensure energy system crashworthiness. Collaborate with Body Structure, Chassis, Powertrain engineers to drive design efficient vehicle content for optimal crash performance. Conduct component, subsystem, and full-vehicle physical crash tests, as required, to validate CAE models for accurate analysis / predictions. Conduct DFMEA/Robustness in safety analysis of structures & occupant protection to ensure that corporate requirements are consistently met throughout the vehicle design and manufacturing processes. Assess the impact of new/advanced technologies & requirements on vehicle crashworthiness and mixed energy propulsion system integrity. Apply knowledge from competitive benchmarking to develop innovative vehicle structure system concepts. Utilize working knowledge of supplier commodity performance capabilities and processes to meet Ford engineering targets. Continuous improvement of crashworthiness methodologies and processes to enhance overall vehicle safety. Actively contribute to a positive teamwork environment based on candid, constructive debate and continuous learning. Established and active employee resource groups Bachelor of Science in Engineering (BS, BSE - Mechanical, Aerospace, Structures, Bio-Mechanics, Applied Mechanics) or a related field of study. Minimum 7 years of Crash Safety CAE experience with emphasis on vehicle structures development for ICE, HEV, EV system integrity during crash.. Expertise in Crash Safety toolset including full vehicle, sub-system & component CAE (LS-Dyna), physical crash testing procedures and data analysis. Extensive knowledge of Global Safety regulatory and Public Domain requirements (e.g. FMVSS, ECE, NCAP, IIHS). Understanding of quality control processes (Failure Mode Avoidance, DFMEA, Robustness) and a proactive approach to identifying areas for improvement in safety methodologies and processes. Proven track record of vehicle program delivery for vehicle structure and ICE, HEV, EV system integrity crash requirements. Demonstrated expertise in reductive design principles to deliver safety performance with efficient vehicle content. Excellent interpersonal communication (oral and written) and collaboration skills with key related engineering activities (e.g. body structure, chassis, powertrain). Masters' in Product Development or Engineering Mechanics (MS, MSE) Design and Release experience with body structures and/or mixed energy storage/delivery systems. Machine learning applications in optimization of vehicle structure and occupant restraint system design.
Responsibilities
Conduct full vehicle, subsystem, and component CAE analyses to optimize vehicle structure and crashworthiness. Collaborate with engineers to drive design efficiency and validate CAE models through physical crash tests.
