The Alma Mater Society (AMS) is the oldest student association in Canada and has been a central student organization at Queen's since its founding in 1858. Today, the AMS acts as a service, advocacy, and governing body on behalf of all students enrolled in AMS-affiliated programs at Queen's University. The AMS is a not-for-profit entity created by the Society to ensure its continuing financial viability by overseeing the management of its services and associated financial affairs. It is bound by the By-laws and corporate philosophy of our Mission and Operating statements as set out in the AMS Constitution. In addition to providing wage-based service staff positions for students wanting employment, the AMS seeks to support the Society's broader objectives through the provisioning of a high quality, relevant range of student funded services, that provide a wide range of employment opportunities and meaningful out-of-classroom learning and skill acquisition experiences for students. Job Summary The AMS Media Centre seeks to provide the Queen’s and Kingston community with exceptional media and production services, at competitive prices with trusted quality. The Media Centre offers a wide variety of services including standard and specialty printing, photography, videography, and graphic design. This service is also responsible for the creation and distribution of the AMS Agenda, the Tricolour Yearbook, and Course Packs, as well as executing the rental of hoods and gowns for Queen’s convocation. The Media Centre blends technology with professional customer service to create an energetic, student-run hub comprised of a team of seven managers, several supervisors, and service staff. The contracted hours for this role, under the discretion of the AMS Media Centre Head Manager, may be subject to increase to account for busy periods. Please note a portfolio submission is required when submitting the application. A portfolio is a compilation of materials that demonstrate your previous work in a specific area (i.e. graphic design, photography, videography, etc.) Competencies Accountability Attention to detail Communication Cultural Sensitivity Problem solving Conflict management Time management Client/customer focus Job Duties Work with the Creative Hub Assistant Manager, and fellow creative hub staff members to prepare and plan for commissioned projects, produce drafts, and ensure the final project meets the needs specified by the client and the standards set out by the AMS Media Center. Learn and exercise a working knowledge of all AMS Media Centre equipment and software including camera, sound, lighting, and computer equipment. Attend all training sessions to become familiar with department and adhere to the general operations of the department Accurately monitor, maintain and report inventories, product flow, and weekly orders. Undertake Manager on Duty (MOD) shifts at the discretion of the Head Manager, based on service demands with potential increase during high volume periods. Exhibit a working knowledge of service staff portfolios Assist with new employee training by positively reinforcing successful performance and giving respectful and encouraging coaching as needed Ensure all customer complaints are addressed and handled professionally, leaving the customer with a positive resolution whenever possible.
