JOB DESCRIPTION:

Position Salary Range: $54,600 - $55,000 per year; DOE
The College of Global Futures, a unit of the Julie Ann Wrigley Global Futures Laboratory, is hiring for a Communications Specialist to support the new School of Conservation Futures. The Communications Specialist will report to the Assistant Director of Strategic Marketing and Communications at the College of Global Futures in creating content for various platforms, including social media, news outlets and email communications.
This role will assist in developing and implementing the school’s communication strategies, programs and project content, and materials for a variety of projects that effectively market and disseminate information. Will promote the school’s activities to internal and external constituents including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and the community.
The School of Conservation Futures aims to create and advance a global conservation community and workforce that reflects the communities we serve, and which is better prepared to protect and restore the diversity of life on Earth in a complex and rapidly changing world.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in conservation related area.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Strong grammar skills required.
  • Multimedia (photo and video) experience and knowledge of utilizing editing software.
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Experience in thinking strategically, executing effectively and efficiently within a high pressure, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and accurately with strong attention to detail.
  • Dependability, flexibility, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Familiarity with university brand guidelines and AP Style.
Responsibilities
  • Plans, develops, and produces creative, high-quality and cost-effective communications for school audiences (e.g., faculty, staff, students, donors, prospective students, partner organizations, practitioners, and the general public) using multiple media and tools (e.g., social media, print, email, ASU News articles, web, displays, etc.).
  • Advises decision makers on effective communications and public relations matters.
  • Participates in strategic communications planning for school projects and initiatives.
  • Serves as the project manager, writer, and editor for school newsletters, social media, web content and articles.
  • Supports the communication needs of the school and programs; especially as they relate to event, development, recruitment, and student services activities (including consulting and/or production of communication tools).
  • Interfaces with and conducts regular interviews with faculty, alumni, key stakeholders, project leads/managers, and team members in order to develop stories for publication and market content.
  • With guidance from the Knowledge Enterprise and Global Futures Laboratory staff, manages school social media accounts, including generating engaging content for platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, LinkedIn, Threads, YouTube, etc.
  • Assists with multimedia efforts in capturing photo and video for the various school initiatives and priorities.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Skill in written and verbal communication, and oral/written/media presentation.
  • Skill in best practices of communication and/or marketing methods and techniques.
  • Skill in principles, concepts, and practices of project management.Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external committees, faculty, staff, and community members.
