Description

An established and growing financial services organisation is seeking an experienced Credit Risk Manager to join its risk function. This is an opportunity to play a key role in shaping credit risk strategy, portfolio performance, and lending decision frameworks within a dynamic and regulated environment.

Reporting to senior leadership, you will be responsible for developing and enhancing credit risk policies, monitoring portfolio performance, analysing credit trends, and providing data-driven recommendations that support sustainable business growth.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and maintain credit risk policies and risk appetite settings.
  • Monitor portfolio performance, identifying emerging risks and trends.
  • Analyse lending data to support strategic decision-making and risk mitigation.
  • Design and enhance credit decisioning strategies across customer segments.
  • Develop and monitor key credit risk metrics, dashboards, and reporting.
  • Conduct portfolio stress testing and scenario analysis.
  • Recommend improvements to underwriting policies and credit assessment processes.
  • Work closely with Credit, Finance, Collections, Compliance, and Technology teams to optimise risk outcomes.
  • Support new product development through credit risk assessments.
  • Present portfolio insights and recommendations to senior management.

Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated experience in credit risk within consumer lending, commercial lending, asset finance, or financial services.
  • Strong understanding of Australian lending regulations, including:
    • National Consumer Credit Protection Act 2009 (NCCP Act)
    • National Credit Code
    • ASIC regulatory requirements
    • Responsible lending obligations (where applicable)
  • Experience developing and monitoring credit risk frameworks.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a commercial mindset.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Technical Skills Experience with several of the following is highly regarded:

  • Advanced SQL for querying, analysing, and validating large datasets.
  • Python or R for statistical analysis, modelling, and automation.
  • Microsoft Excel (advanced functions, Power Query, PivotTables, VBA desirable).
  • Power BI or Tableau for dashboard development and portfolio reporting.
  • SAS (desirable).
  • Experience working with data warehouses and large relational databases.
  • Knowledge of credit bureau data (Equifax, illion, or Experian).
  • Experience with credit decision engines and workflow platforms.
  • Exposure to scorecard development, behavioural modelling, or probability of default (PD) models.
  • Understanding of IFRS 9 or Expected Credit Loss (ECL) methodologies (desirable).
  • Experience using portfolio monitoring, reporting, or risk management systems.
