Haleys Solicitors is a growing and successful practice with offices in Bradford, Sheffield and Birmingham. We are looking to fill an exciting role for a professional, well known company and are looking to hire a criminal defence solicitor immediately at our Birmingham office.

REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a valid practising certificate and specialisation in criminal law.
Demonstrated experience in criminal defence, with a track record of successfully representing clients in a variety of cases.
Strong understanding of Criminal Law, Court procedures, and evidence rules.
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to clearly and persuasively present cases in court and explain complex legal concepts to clients
Analytical skills and attention to detail, crucial for reviewing evidence and legal documents to identify key issues in cases.
Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload effectively, meeting deadlines and client needs.
Resilience and the capacity to handle challenging cases with professionalism and a commitment to ethical legal practice.
Strong negotiation and advocacy skills, essential for securing favourable outcomes for clients.
Collaborate with and provide support to other fee earners within the Criminal Law Department, assisting with caseloads and sharing expertise.
Commitment to continuous professional development in the field of criminal law.
Prior experience working within a Criminal Legal Aid department, with a deep understanding of legal aid regulations and processes.
A minimum of 2+ years of experience in criminal law.

Schedule: 9.00am to 5.30pm – Monday to Friday

Responsibilities

Represent and defend clients facing criminal charges in various legal settings, from initial advice in police stations to representation in Magistrates’ and Crown Courts.
Conduct thorough case preparations, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and developing defence strategies to support client cases effectively.
Offer expert legal advice to clients regarding their rights and the legal processes involved in criminal proceedings, ensuring they are fully informed at every stage.
Negotiate with prosecutors and other parties to secure the best possible outcomes for clients, including reduced charges or alternative resolutions where appropriate.
Attend pre-trial hearings, trials, and sentencing, advocating on behalf of clients and presenting well-prepared legal arguments to support their defence.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in Criminal Law and legal practice to ensure advice and representation are based on the most current legal standards.
Manage a caseload effectively, prioritising tasks and responsibilities to meet deadlines and client expectations.
Ensure all client information and case details are documented accurately and confidentially in line with legal and ethical standards.
Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, offering empathetic and client-centred legal services.
