The Salvation Army Youth Services offer an integrated suite of programs engaging with young people across Australia. Our services create intentional avenues for young people to explore opportunities, build support networks, and access, participate and contribute to their communities.
Our Youth Services Program based in Upton Road provides highly supportive & therapeutic youth refuge accommodation to young people & families experiencing significant crisis and homelessness.
About the role
We are seeking a values-driven and proactive Crisis Accommodation Support Worker to deliver professional and consistent support to young men, women and families who are homeless or at risk of experiencing homelessness.
Reporting to the Coordinator, this is a permanent, part-time (23 hours per week) position based in St Kilda, Victoria. Salary and conditions are in accordance with the SCHADS Award Level 4.
Please note all applicants must have interest and availability in working shifts across a 24/7 roster with shift times from 4:30 pm - 12:00 am weeknights and weekends, or 9:00 am - 5:00 pm on weekends.

You will successfully

  • Provide a safe and nurturing environment for all residents residing within the refuge setting.
  • Support the case management team in the ongoing implementation of case management plans.
  • Provide informal support to all clients of the program including outreach clients residing in the community.
  • Assist residents to manage and maintain individual and shared living spaces, as well as assist in the daily cleaning and maintenance of the refuge environment to a high standard.
  • Complete comprehensive intake and risk assessment for all refuge clients, incorporating adequate assessment of the needs of accompanying children.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping that meets legislative standards and are completed within a timely manner.
  • Ensure the safe management of the crisis accommodation program in conducting a comprehensive handover to colleagues.

You will have

  • Tertiary qualification in social sciences, welfare or related field with a degree qualification preferred.
  • A current and valid Victorian Working with Children Check.
  • A current Victorian Driver Licence.
  • Relevant experience in a social service environment.
