EveryMind Mental Health Services (formerly Peel Children’s Centre) is looking for a highly skilled, experienced, and enthusiastic mental health professional to work in their Crisis Response Services program and respond to crisis situations and provide both telephone & in-office/community crisis response and services to children, youth and their families in the Region of Peel for a Crisis Response Worker contractual role.
EveryMind is an accredited children and youth mental health centre that provides a continuum of high-quality mental health services to enrich the lives of children, youth and their families who are experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges. Our services are provided in a dynamic, client-centred environment that values respect and inclusion, collaboration, learning, innovation and accountability.
Our Crisis Response Services offers immediate aid for children/youth and their families who are dealing with imminent mental health crises and provides a two-tiered response service via telephone and on-site visits to the clients’ home, school, or any other location in the community.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or Bachelor’s degree in social services or health related field with a minimum of two years clinical experience OR 3-year CYW diploma with three years clinical experience in children’s mental health crisis response services.
  • Previous experience in a mental health setting and/or distress line.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of crisis theory and relevant legislation pertaining to children’s mental health, child and family development, mental health issues and community resources.
  • Strong client engagement and assessment skills.
  • Proven risk assessment, effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills.
  • Have proven tolerance for high pressure situations which necessitates a calm and competent manner, quick and effective problem-solving skills.
  • Display a proven ability to anticipate unsafe situations and formulate safety plans to address these needs.
  • Possess strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Strong technology skills and experience with client care information systems and Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook and comfortable with use of apps.
  • Embraces diversity and demonstrated cultural awareness with critical self-awareness and understanding of engagement with the culture of clients and families
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s License (Full G Class), and access to a reliable vehicle with comfort in driving throughout Peel Region and surrounding areas is required.
  • Prior experience with Columbia Screener – Suicide assessment tool and Can-CAT- Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment tool is an asset.
  • Applied Suicide Intervention Skills training (ASIST) is an asset.
  • A second spoken language is an asset.
  • A Satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Police Check and Pre-Employment Medical screening (including TB test, MMR, TD, Polio, Covid-19 Vaccination), is required.

Responsibilities

The incumbent will:

  • Respond to crisis calls from clients in mental health crisis, in a timely manner, implementing verbal de-escalation techniques
  • Provide immediate crisis assessment and planning;
  • Develop and implement safety plans, as required;
  • Complete follow up calls and/or visits to the clients, to further support stabilization of the crisis situation and provide linkages to ongoing community supports or counselling;
  • Complete all necessary risk and behavioural assessments, utilizing tools such as Columbia Screener – Suicide assessment tool and Can-CAT- Child and Adolescent Needs and Strengths assessment;
  • Based on assessment, utilize effective counselling, problem solving and safety planning skills;
  • Work closely with other members of the Crisis Response Service;
  • Provide service in the home, in the school or in the community as needed;
  • Provide time-limited, transitional case management supports and collaboration with other service providers following the crisis response;
  • Work flexible, rotating shifts (including weekends/overnights/public holidays) according to a predetermined schedule and provide on call coverage, since Crisis Response Services operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
