DEPARTMENT PURPOSE

The Business Development (BD) teams are part of the Global Business Development, Marketing & Communications function. These teams contribute to the firm’s business objectives, including enhancing client relationships, increasing global visibility, and supporting partners and associates in their goal of becoming trusted advisors to clients.

ROLE PURPOSE

This CRM & Marketing Executive role will provide essential BD support to the Established Industries sector group (made up of four subsectors comprising of Chemicals, Consumer & Retail, Mining & Metals, and Transportation) and the global Technology sector. Established Industries and Technology are two of the six global priority sectors for the firm and will involve collaborating with global BD team members, including the global BD leads for the Established Industries and Technology sectors as well as the lead sector partners, to execute the business plan, manage client development, organise events, assist with pitches, raise the firm’s profile, and handle ad hoc BD tasks. This role will assist with firm-wide, cross-practice, and cross-office initiatives, bridging the merged teams from legacy A&O and legacy Shearman.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

The CRM & Marketing Executive should possess exceptional organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to manage their workload with efficiency. This global role is ideal for an individual who thrives in a position with a wide-ranging and varied scope, rather than focusing on a single area of expertise. Key responsibilities include:

Data management

  • Maintain and update client information, marketing descriptions, and contact details for the Technology and Established Industries group.
  • Ensure all data is accurate and up-to-date.

Marketing collateral

  • Collaborate with BD/CRM managers to update credential documents, brochures, and other marketing materials with significant deals, experience, awards, and personnel changes.
  • Create and distribute internal newsletters using the firm’s email marketing platform (Vuture) to keep the individual sector groups informed about client relationships, conference debriefs, recent client instructions, and sector updates.
  • Manage the Established Industries and Technology sector webpages and intranet sites to ensure they are up to date and consistent.

Directory submissions

  • Manage submissions for legal directories (e.g., Chambers & Partners, Legal 500) for the global sectors.
  • Coordinate with associates and partners to draft, review, and finalise content, gather client referee nominations, and liaise with legal directory researchers to secure interviews to achieve top tier rankings.

Client account management

  • Assistance with the account management of sector group priority clients.
  • Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and create client-facing documents for meetings.
  • Maintain client contact trackers.

Events and hospitality management

  • Manage all aspects of events together with the events team from planning to execution, including invitations, client communications, and logistical support.

Market and client research (Internal & external)

  • Support with research and analysis related to client strategy, financial performance, key contacts, competitor activities, and market developments in the Technology and Established Industries sectors.
  • Support with horizon scanning for Established Industries to ensure we are placing focus on the right subsectors.
  • Coordinate monthly reports on client financial performance, pitches, meetings, and recent relationship activity.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the Technology and Established Industries sectors, including economic trends, industry drivers, and key clients.

Proposals & client-facing materials

  • Compile information from internal systems (CRM and finance systems) to create credentials statements and client proposals.
  • Maintain and regularly update a repository of global marketing materials, including brochures and placemats.
