QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A degree/diploma in Agriculture and/or Agri-Business and a minimum 2 years of grain merchandising and /or sales experience working in the Canadian grain industry.
  • Good understanding of grain business in Western Canada.
  • Able to work flexible hours and accommodate some domestic business travel.
  • Solid understanding of the commodities market, futures, foreign exchange and hedging.
  • Knowledge of commodity mark to market accounting.
  • Solid organization and time management skills.
  • Solid software skills.
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, including freight arbitrage opportunities
    This position will be based in SK and the Candidate is expected to a spend min of 25% of their time at the Elevator in Marengo SK.

    Pay: $75,000.00-$95,000.00 per year

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • The Cross Country Grain Trader will be responsible for planning and executing grain merchandising activities within a specific region. This position will capitalize on grain market opportunities, sourcing and merchandising grain for truck deliveries into domestic markets, developing regional grain merchandising strategies, directing logistical activities, and managing sales, credit and collections. The Trader will be accountable for fulfilling a commodity volume and margin budget.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Position and arbitrage and trade multiple commodities to achieve a budget.
  • Expand merchandising potential to accommodate opportunities with an emphasis on increasing market share and margin retention.
  • Work closely with internal and external logistics to book truck freight at the lowest cost option as required to execute your contracts.
  • Determine the most cost-effective suppliers and remain vigilant of local conditions that negatively or positively impact global supply and demand.
  • Secure and purchase a reliable supply of the high quality grains at the lowest price.
  • Build relationships in the agricultural community with producers, procressors and other end use buyers.
  • Be the key sales and purchase contact for all commodities within the assigned territory.
  • Be deeply involved in the company’s customer relevance.
  • Keep abreast of transportation rates and make the most effective decisions involving procurement and execution of logistics.
  • Accountable to ensure that the CSR system is used to track all trading related communication with customers and producers.
  • Ensure that all contract management, credit, execution and risk policies are followed for all contracts.
  • Accountable for their own budget volume and margin achievement.
