Description

Synergist Computing is seeking an experienced Cross Domain Solutions (CDS) Developer to serve as a consultant supporting the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) in Washington, D.C. This role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining secure cross-domain data transfer capabilities within NRL’s network infrastructure environment. You will work closely with NRL engineers, network specialists, and cybersecurity personnel to ensure secure, compliant, and efficient information sharing between networks of differing classification levels.
This position is hybrid, with 2 days per week of telework and 3 days on-site at NRL, and will play a critical role in enabling mission success for national defense programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Design, Develop, and Maintain CDS Systems
Architect secure data transfer solutions across multiple security domains
Develop and integrate hardware/software-based CDS technologies, including
Guards, Diodes, and High Assurance Guards
Ensure alignment with DoD CDS policies, RMF guidelines, and CDS Approval
Process requirements
Network Infrastructure Integration
Collaborate with network engineers to integrate CDS systems into complex
infrastructure environments
Optimize CDS performance in high-demand, mission-critical settings
Implement secure routing, switching, and firewall configurations that support
CDS operations
Testing, Validation, and Compliance
Conduct functional, performance, and security testing of CDS solutions
Support Lab-Based Security Assessments (LBSA) and Risk Assessments for CDS
accreditation
Maintain and update technical documentation, including system architecture
diagrams, configuration baselines, and A&A artifacts
Collaboration and Support
Work with multidisciplinary teams to identify requirements and propose secure,
efficient CDS implementations
Provide technical expertise to troubleshoot, optimize, and maintain deployed CDS
systems

Recommend enhancements or alternative approaches to improve performance and compliance

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering, Systems Engineering, Cybersecurity, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in secure system or network engineering, with at least 2+ years directly related to cross-domain solutions
  • Hands-on experience with CDS products (e.g., Forcepoint Trusted Gateway System, Radiant Mercury, Owl Cyber Defense Diodes)
  • Strong networking knowledge, including TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, and switching
  • Familiarity with DoD security policies, RMF, and the CDS accreditation process
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing CDS systems within classified network environments
  • Knowledge of firewall configuration and advanced network security measures
  • Familiarity with scripting or automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python, Bash)
  • Experience with creating CDSA documentation and guiding systems through the CDS approval lifecycle
  • Understanding of network integration for hybrid cloud and on-premises environments

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $130,000.00 - $180,000.00 per year
