Cabrini Brighton Perioperative Services is a caring yet dynamic environment with 5 operating theatres and 1 stand-alone endoscopy suite. Providing a range of surgical specialties from Orthopaedic to general breast surgery, urology and ophthalmology we perform approximately 800 operations each month, ensuring patient centred care. Our day-of-surgery admissions focus on every patient having a positive experience with their admission to theatre, while our Post-Anaesthetic Care Unit and discharge lounge cater for all specialist post-operative care requirements.
The role
The Central Sterilising Supply Department (CSSD) has the latest technology to significantly reducing manual handling. Optimum working environment, where instruments are processed to the highest standard for each procedure.
The Instrument Technicians work across a Monday to Friday roster in the Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD), which is reprocessing reusable medical devices for procedures in the theatres. Instrument technicians typically rotate through all phases of the reprocessing cycle.
Operational hours are from 7 am to 11 Pm with -no weekends or Public holidays

Key responsibilities:

  • Using/monitoring of Steam and Sterrad sterilizers
  • Processing Endoscopy equipment
  • Loans – processing equipment from an external vendor
  • Cleaning, setting up, and wrapping instrument trays
  • Using an electronic tracking system
  • Carry out all testing for equipment
  • Surgical set ups & transfer of sterile items to appropriate departments

This position requires lifting instrument trays up to 7.5kgs.
About you

Along with recent proven experience as an Instrument Technician (12 months post certificate) and a commitment to providing a high level of service, you will have the following:

  • MUST have Certificate III in Health – Sterilising Practice for Technicians or equivalent
  • Demonstrated knowledge of sterilization standards.
  • High level of customer service skills.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently as required.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of OH&S in the workplace.
