Job Summary: The CT Surgery Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant provides overnight clinical care for cardiothoracic surgery patients, supporting safe and continuous management in the ICU and step‑down settings. The NP/PA conducts focused assessments, manages acute changes in patient status, orders appropriate diagnostics, responds to emergent situations, and communicates key updates to the on‑call surgical team. Candidates must be licensed to practice as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, and NPs must hold Acute Care NP certification. CT surgery or critical care experience is preferred. ACLS and BLS certifications are required, along with strong clinical judgment and the ability to manage high‑acuity patients independently. This position is a night‑shift role, typically twelve-hour shifts. This position is involved in a team-based approach to care. Team members are trained to meet the highest level of function for their role as per the State of Tennessee/Georgia guidelines. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to coordinate care for patients and is trained and assigned to support patients/families/caregivers in self-management, self-efficacy and behavior change. Is trained and assigned (as per their role and responsibilities) to manage the practices' patient population. Participates in the practice's quality improvement process and performance evaluation. Education: Required: Graduate of a Physician Assistant Program accredited by the American Academy of Physician Assistant. BS/BA required or completion from an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program, Family Nurse Practitioner Program with Acute Care certification Preferred: Minimum 2 years' experience in CT Surgery or Critical Care setting Position Requirement(s): License/Certification/Registration Required: Current licensure to practice nursing in the State of Tennessee. Certification by the American Nurses Association as a Nurse Practitioner. Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Current Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) or PA-C certification. Current state licensure as an NP or PA. BLS and ACLS certification (required or obtained within onboarding timeline). DEA licensure (if prescribing) Department Position Summary: Employee should have: Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations, and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical condition, and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports and responding to correspondence. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt, and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to communicate clearly. Ability to perform procedures and operate equipment necessary for patient care as required. Ability to maintain strict level of confidentiality regarding health information.
