Description Job Title: Culinary Assistant Department: Hospitality Reports To: Catering Chef and Manager Position Type: Full-time, 30+ hours per week Schedule: Variable based on events, includes some nights and weekends FLSA Status: Non-exempt Salary: $20/hr. Benefits: Eligible Position Description The Goodman Community Center’s, Good Works Community Catering’s primary mission is to provide the highest possible food quality and customer service for events held by our community members. Good Works Community Catering is a participating department in our TEENworks program, where teens work with staff in a supported employment program to learn culinary skills that are necessary for employment in the food industry. This position supports the execution of menus, operations of the Catering Kitchen, and assists in teaching teens hands-on job skills related to the food and customer service industry. Qualifications At least 1 year of experience in catering and/or banquet cooking At least 1 year of experience as a line cook or similar position Ability to work with, supervise, and train diverse teens in a supported work program. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong organizational and problem-solving skills. Valid Driver’s license and reliable transportation. Ability to actively participate in kitchen operations for entire shifts; the ability to load and unload items up to 50lbs., move and place items in storage and work areas with or without assistance Requirements Responsibilities Execute quality catering meal service for 200+ guests, while mentoring and training youth staff. Set up stations for service, maintain quality, sanitation, and cook time requirements while preparing all menu items according to recipes and presentation specifications. Assist the Catering Chef and Event Team with client tastings and menu planning. Work with Catering Chef to inventory, rotate, and order supplies for back of house operations. Work with Hospitality and TEENworks management to provide training, supervision, and mentorship to teen staff in order to create excellent food, service, and to maintain cleaning standards. Support teens’ ongoing success with prompt and constructive feedback. Assist Catering Chef to maintain and teach food safety and sanitation standards of the kitchen. Foster a team environment between both the Catering FOH and TEENworks by always maintaining professional, respectful communication and collaboration.
