The State of New Hampshire, Department of Corrections, Division of Rehabilitative Services has a full-time vacancy for a Culinary Instructor - Professor located at our NH Correctional Facility for Women.
Summary:
Performs all the professional duties of an instructor of educationally disabled and/or educationally disadvantaged students in the Career and Technical Education Center- Corrections Special School District (CSSD) setting to both male and/or female offenders at other correctional facilities and administers, directly and indirectly, the rules and operational routines necessary for maintaining a safe and secure correctional environment while working in close and immediate contact with prisoners on a daily basis. Ensures education program and policy requirements are met for offenders as determined through departmental, state and federal guidelines
TI/COLLEGE PROFESSOR:
Education: Master’s degree from a recognized college or university with major study in a subject area related to career and technical education, adult education, occupational studies, business or food production and services.
Experience: Six years’ experience in teaching, business or industry in the field of food production and services, two years of which shall have been supervisory teaching duties.
OR
Education: Fifty-five Professional Credits. Applicants will be evaluated by the Technical Institute if they use this qualification method.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must possess a valid driver’s license. Must be appropriately endorsed by the NH Department of Education (DOE), Bureau of Credentialing as a qualified educator in Career Cluster 2800 Hospitality and Tourism credentialing code #0903 Culinary Arts/Restaurant Management. DOE Statement of Eligibility and Alternative plans as approved by the DOE Bureau of Credentialing may be substituted for initial certification requirement in the interim with the expectation of achieving certification as a qualified educator.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Successful completion of the Corrections Academy and continuing Certification as correctional line personnel as established by the certifying authority.
Initial appointment to a specific academic rank shall constitute assignment to the individual of at least the minimum number of professional credits required for appointment to that rank. Additional credits gained subsequent to appointment shall be added to the initial appointment base.

Responsibilities:
Monitors behavior of inmates for compliance with institutional rules; maintains a safe and secure classroom/lab environment; implements behavior management program for inmates; and assists inmates in learning and demonstrating responsible behavior.
When appropriate, initiates disciplinary action and presents evidence and testimony when called upon to do so. Attends meetings of committees such as staff development, fire safety, etc. in order to plan for and monitor related activities.
F ulfills the security functions required of all DOC employees as dictated by institutional needs and Policy & Procedure Directives. Examples include, but are not limited to, monitoring inmate movement, key control, tool control, contraband detection and fire safety.
P repares lesson plans and activities based upon occupational analyses in order to provide relevant training for inmates in area of certification in alignment with New Hampshire Department of Education competency standards.
Develops certificate programming/agreements in appropriate areas that provide inmate/students with exposure to high school and college level studies and requirements.
P erforms a full instructional schedule in classroom and laboratory in order to provide inmates with relevant hands on experience under actual or simulated conditions in the prescribed discipline.
R equisitions necessary equipment, supplies, and materials in order to provide for a smooth flow of inmate/students projects.
M aintains contacts with trade and industry personnel in appropriate fields in order to keep inmate/student training up to date. Establishes and maintains a craft advisory committee comprised of trade, industry and education personnel to provide feedback on industry and education trends.
Facilitates craft advisory committee meetings twice a year providing meeting minute notes to CSSD administration.
I mplements a staff development Professional Growth Plan to maintain educator certification and assure continued professional development of skills and knowledge vital to the position.
M aintains all paperwork, reports, grades, attendance data, etc. as required by the Corrections Special School District administration. Performs all additional duties and/or assignments as determined by NHDOC and/or the CSSD administration.
