Kamloops Aboriginal Friendship Society (KAFS) was established in 1972 and is a non-profit organization with a status free open-door policy. KAFS is dedicated to empowering the Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal communities of Kamloops and surrounding areas. KAFS provides culturally appropriate programs and inclusive services that meet the needs of urban Indigenous people to become healthier, physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Relevant post-secondary education, such as a degree in Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
  • Experience in developing and delivering educational programs, preferably in an Indigenous or cultural education setting.
  • Experience working within a school district or similar educational environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel within the district.
  • Flexibility to attend meetings and events outside of regular working hours as needed.

Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and deliver cultural education programs for students in School District #73.
  • Build relationships with school administrators, Aboriginal Education Workers, Aboriginal Family Counselors, and other school staff to ensure the successful implementation of cultural programming.
  • Organize and facilitate cultural events, workshops, and activities that align with school curriculum and Indigenous knowledge systems.
  • Represent KAFS on School District #73 committees, such as Aboriginal Grad, National Indigenous Peoples Day, and other cultural initiatives. Act as the KAFS representative at District Aboriginal Advisory Committee meetings.
  • Support the goals and objectives of the Aboriginal Education Council strategic plan.
  • Collaborate with the District Principal of Aboriginal Education and other stakeholders to integrate Indigenous knowledge into school programming.
  • Actively participate in the District Aboriginal Cultural Resource Team to support cultural education initiatives.
  • Maintain records and provide reports on program effectiveness and participation.
  • Provide cultural knowledge and support to other programs within KAFS, ensuring cultural integrity and collaboration across initiatives.
  • Work as part of a team to support and participate in events hosted by KAFS, contributing to the planning and delivery of community-based cultural activities.
  • Perform other related duties as required.
