Job Responsibilities

  • To research and conceive relevant, appropriate and engaging exhibitions in art, science and the intersections, that reflect the ambitions and vision of ArtScience Museum, Singapore
  • Research and write engaging and meaningful critical texts for publication where applicable
  • Compile information for labels and text panels, write interpretative material for the season guide, website and exhibition where applicable
  • Collate and copyedit texts; research, request, store and return images and obtain copyright permissions for use in publications and communication materials
  • Work with contractors, registrars, couriers etc., to execute the installation and de-installation of exhibitions
  • Draft contracts for partner organisations, artists, curators and authors in consultation with Marina Bay Sands Legal advisors
  • With support from the Director, PEMS liaise with arts institutions, artists and their representatives as appropriate
  • Research loans and liaise with the Director, PEMS and the Senior Manager, Exhibitions on the preparation of loan documentation, administration of loan requests and ensure loan conditions are met
  • Work with the Registrar and Assistant Registrar to facilitate condition and packing reports to museum standards, keeping records of movement and conditions of works and liaise with the Conservator and couriers when necessary
  • Liaise with all ArtScience Museum departments and colleagues including Public Programmes, Marketing and Communications and Museum Services as necessary to facilitate clear communication and delivery of projects
  • Monitor and maintain budgets for specific exhibitions and exhibition-related publications – including obtaining estimates, raising orders, processing invoices, maintaining digital and physical budget files, and with the support of the Exhibitions Administrator and Senior Administrator of the museum
  • Maintain files and correspondence as well as archiving past exhibition files
  • Arrange accommodation, travel and per diems for visiting artists, couriers etc.
  • Compile exhibition event guest lists in collaboration with Director, PEMS and Senior Manager, Exhibitions
  • Deal with enquiries and maintain databases
  • Assist with ArtScience Museum events where appropriate
  • Any other duties appropriate to the role as requested by the Director, PEMS and Senior Manager, Exhibitions

Job Requirements

Education & Certification

  • A postgraduate qualification in curating, museology or art history, science education or related field preferred

Experience

  • Minimum of four years’ experience of curating in a museum or gallery and an exceptional track record of making engaging exhibition content for the public from conceptualisation to delivery as well as publications and collaterals

Other Prerequisites

  • Strong interest in art, science and the intersections
  • Experience of working with artists and creatives directly, including but not limited to loans and commissions and of working in co-curatorial partnerships
  • Experience of publishing in print and/or online
  • Excellent English language writing and editing experience
  • Excellent organisation skills and impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills and accuracy in written communication
  • Good negotiation skills and the ability to handle sensitive situations with diplomacy
  • Proven experience in project management
  • A good knowledge of current debates in the art, science or art-science arenas
  • Good proven computer skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, with good interpersonal skills in an often pressured environment and fast-paced work environment
  • Be able to make decisions and accept responsibility
  • Ability to multitask efficiently, manage and organise workload with a focus on positive outcomes
  • Pro-active and self-motivated
