The position will be active from May to October and must be carried out as a curricular internship between the company and the university, in accordance with the required agreements. What will you do as an intern in breeding? As an intern in breeding at our R&D station in Tarquinia, Italy, you will work together with onion breeding colleagues locally and internationally. Your main objective during your internship will be to improve and validate new technologies for digital phenotyping in an open-field environment. To achieve this goal, you will dive into literature and consult your colleagues at Enza Zaden, and you will have access to dedicated devices and software. Thanks to your curiosity and persistence, you will start developing the right breeding attitude and approach, experiencing hands-on activities in the field. You will be of great value to the breeding colleagues, who will guide and supervise you. Main tasks Assist the Breeder in testing and implementing new technologies for onion breeding. Work closely with the Biotech Breeder and the Onion Breeding Team to accomplish project goals and actively participate in breeding, testing, and selection activities. Help plan, organize, and oversee field and greenhouse trials. Develop an understanding of the crop’s culture, morphology, and floral biology to implement efficient breeding strategies. Become familiar with analytical methods for evaluating breeding material. Profile Ability to work in open-field and greenhouse conditions for several hours a day. Strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues and maintain relationships with external contacts. Basic training in plant breeding (additional training will be provided). Practical, precise, and structured approach to work. Fluent in English. Driver’s license. Duration and Compensation Duration: approximately 200 hours, ideally covering the period between May and October/November. Compensation: this activity is reserved for the completion of a university curricular internship.
