Are you passionate about supporting high-quality teaching and learning that makes a real difference for all ākonga? As a Curriculum Advisor you’ll be at the forefront of educational change, working directly with schools and kura in your region to implement curriculum and assessment and aromatawai changes and sharing your expertise across the country.
This position has a focus on secondary school, to support the implementation of the new knowledge rich curriculum, with specific focus on phase 4 and 5. You will have a strong background and understanding of the science of learning and relevant pedagogies and secondary assessment and aromatawai practices.
As a Curriculum Advisor, you will provide advice to leadership teams, teachers and kaiako on implementing curriculum and assessment and aromatawai changes taking a whole school approach. We’re seeking Curriculum Advisers with proven experience in leading whole-school curriculum and assessment and aromatawai change, along with subject expertise in the New Zealand Curriculum and/or Te Marautanga o Aotearoa to strengthen our national Curriculum Advisory Service.
As part of a dedicated regional team, your key responsibilities will include:
- Supporting secondary schools and kura to implement the knowledge rich curriculum at phase 4 and 5 using effective practices so that it has the intended impact for learners.
- Delivering whole school curriculum and assessment and aromatawai change aligned to local needs and national priorities using targeted and tailored implementation supports
- Using the Curriculum Advisory Service model and quality support materials
- Supporting professional learning to develop pedagogical content knowledge.

Salary range: $99,496 - $120,690 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.
To be successful in this role, you will need to have the following capabilities and competencies:
- Deep understanding of the science of learning and the effective teaching practices that are needed to enact the knowledge rich curriculum to achieve learner outcomes.
- Strong, proven expertise in whole school curriculum planning and delivery that supports consistency of teaching and learning with the ability to support professional change in education settings.
- Effective curriculum design expertise and a deep working knowledge and practical experience in secondary teaching is essential. Evidenced of improved outcomes for diverse communities is an advantage.
- Deep pedagogical knowledge, both the underlying expertise and the ability to build others knowledge. Please state your area of pedagogical expertise in your application.
- Experience working with Pacific bilingual units would be advantageous for Curriculum Advisors Secondary.
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective partnerships to drive change, using strong interpersonal, facilitation, and diplomacy skills. Skilled in leading, motivating, and coaching kaiako, teachers and leaders to build capability and implement change
- Familiarity with te ao Māori and understanding of Te Reo, tikanga and mātauranga Māori is essential for Curriculum Advisors working in Kura Kaupapa Māori and Māori Medium settings.
- A full current NZ driver licence as travel will be required.
