Our staff have the opportunity to grow their professional skills and work collaboratively with colleagues they admire and respect.   About the role  Custodial Assistant/Custodian—Operations will assist the Operations, Engineering & Facilities  Department and be responsible for cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining the building in both public and non-public areas. This includes offices, galleries, staircases, elevators, and other areas. These duties include but are not limited to:  Responsibilities:   * Dust, sweep, damp mop, wet mop, scrub, strip and polish assigned areas with manual and/or mechanical equipment using solvents, waxes, polishes and other approved cleansing agents   * Remove gum, spot clean, shampoo and vacuum floors, rugs, mats and runners   * Dust and/or wash glass walls using appropriate materials by hand and/or machine  * Remove and/or clean curtains, drapes, blinds, and shades  * Regularly clean and maintain mirrors and glass surfaces, including those in bookcases, doors, and windows  * Work from ladders when required  * Polish furniture and metal work by hand or by machine  * Clean toilets and replenish toilet supplies    * Sweep sidewalks and wash sidewalks and lower portions of buildings with brush and hose.  * Operate elevators, move furniture, supplies and materials  * Assist with snow removal when required  * Support Public Safety Captains and Supervising Museum Maintainers by serving as a safety liaison and assisting with routine custodial duties that help maintain a safe and well-managed museum environment.  * Follow all safety procedures and use required personal protective equipment (PPE)  * Identify and promptly report unsafe conditions, leaks, damaged equipment, or maintenance issues to Operations, Engineering & Facilities Department  * Operate and maintain custodial equipment such as vacuums, floor machines, and other approved cleaning tools in accordance with department procedures.  * Document work performed, inspections, and equipment conditions using the institution’s work order or maintenance management system.  * Responsible for properly sorting waste, including trash, recyclables, and paper in alignment with sustainability standards, supporting environmental compliance and the organization’s waste reduction goals.    Qualifications:  * Able to meet medical and physical requirements which allow for the performance of medium labor and cleaning  * Ability to lift and transport heavy items, up to 50 pounds  * Basic computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office Suite strongly preferred  * Candidates are expected to hold an OSHA 10-Hour certification. If not already obtained, the museum will sponsor the required training.    Department: Museum Operations  Reports to: Director of Facilities  Position type: Full-time, Temporary Salary: $42,898 Union status: Union—DC37 Local 1502   FLSA status: Non-exempt  Schedule: Wednesday–Sunday, 10:00 am–6:30 pm.
