Description Job Title: Custodial & Maintenance Staff Location: Citizenship & Syracuse Academy Jr./Sr. High School, Syracuse, NY Employment Type: Full-Time Reports To: Operations Manager Job Summary: Citizenship & Syracuse Academy Jr./Sr. High School is seeking a dedicated and reliable Custodial & Maintenance Staff member to ensure the cleanliness, safety, and proper functioning of our school facilities. The ideal candidate will have experience in building maintenance, cleaning, and repair work, with a strong attention to detail and a commitment to creating a safe, welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. The work hours are 7:00am-3:30pm. Key Responsibilities: Perform daily cleaning of classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and common areas, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment. Sweep, mop, vacuum, polish, and maintain floors and carpets; spot clean spills as needed. Empty trash receptacles and ensure proper disposal of waste. Conduct routine maintenance tasks, including minor repairs, painting and touch-ups, equipment upkeep, snow removal, and salting sidewalks. Operate cleaning machinery safely on soft and hard surfaces (e.g., vacuum cleaners, polishers) following health and safety guidelines. Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies; replenish janitorial items in restrooms and other designated areas. Assist with setup and breakdown for school events, assemblies, and activities. Wipe and polish furniture, ledges, pipes, doors, paintwork, and door glass to maintain cleanliness standards. Maintain hygiene and safety standards for all cleaning equipment, closets, and storage areas under your responsibility. Report safety hazards, maintenance issues, equipment defects, or any conditions detrimental to safe working practices promptly to the Operations Manager. Follow all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, including the safe use of chemicals and personal protective equipment (PPE). Perform other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager. Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous experience in custodial, janitorial, or maintenance work is a plus. Ability to operate cleaning and maintenance equipment safely. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Accommodate school events and emergencies. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. Ability to perform physical tasks, including bending, kneeling, and standing for extended periods.
