Description POSITION SUMMARY The Custodian is responsible for providing consistently phenomenal customer service while maintaining a clean and organized environment for customers and employees. This position upholds Co-op standards, including genuine customer service, department conditions, safety, productivity, and other workplace conditions, in a manner that upholds the values of Sacramento Natural Foods Co-op and the co-operative identity. DEPARTMENT Facilities and Maintenance FLSA STATUS Non-Exempt REPORTS TO Safety and Facilities Manager UNION STATUS Teamsters Local 150 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Exceed our customers’ expectations for service and provide a welcoming environment for all in accordance with the Co-op’s customer service standards. Custodial Responsibilities Maintain cleanliness of all areas of the Co-op. Greet customers and provide friendly, helpful, courteous, and prompt customer service. Refer customers to appropriate staff persons when unable to provide service. Direct customers to product and product information locations in the store upon request. Keep the store sales floor orderly and clean by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming it. Gather and empty trash from all receptacles. Service, clean, and supply restrooms. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment. Steam clean or shampoo carpets. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors, fixtures, or oneself. Move furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using carts. Maintain cleanliness of outside areas by power washing and clearing all debris from grounds, sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas. Notify appropriate managers concerning the need for repairs or additions to building operating systems and report any damage or malfunction of any equipment. Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties. Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings. Maintain a working knowledge of product, back stock, and stocking supplies locations for all departments. Check prices, clean spills, and perform other housekeeping duties as needed. Re-stock unsold products and return carts and recyclable containers to their proper receptacles. Bale cardboard and make cardboard bales when needed. Keep the refuse area tidy and organized. Ensure all mop rooms are clean and organized. Perform light maintenance duties as needed. Must be available to work hours based on the needs of the business and their department. Clerk Duties Adhere to scheduled shifts and be ready for work when shift begins. Wear proper clothing during shift, including apron and nametag, closed-toe shoes and shirt with sleeves. Abide by all Co-op policies and procedures as specified in the SNFC Employee Handbook. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Additional Customer Service Experience Previous experience in a high-traffic retail or service environment. Demonstrated ability to handle diverse customer interactions with patience and professionalism. Advanced Cleaning and Maintenance Skills Experience with a wide range of cleaning techniques and maintenance equipment. Certification in the use of specific cleaning chemicals and safety protocols. Technical Proficiency Familiarity with building maintenance software and digital maintenance tracking tools. Ability to troubleshoot basic mechanical issues. Problem-Solving Aptitude Proven track record of identifying and resolving facility-related issues proactively. Experience in developing and implementing cleaning schedules and procedures. Attention to Detail History of maintaining exceptionally high standards of cleanliness and order. Experience in environments where precision and thoroughness are critical, such as retail or food service industries. Team Collaboration Strong track record of collaborating effectively with diverse teams. Flexibility and Adaptability Ability to adapt to changing schedules and priorities, including emergency cleaning tasks. Event Support Experience setting up and taking down large events.
