Job Description:
Supervision: Director of Business and Operations or designate.
Union: Service Employees International Union Local 1 Canada CLC
Position: Part-Time 10am-2pm Saturday, Sunday and Statutory Holidays as required
Rate of Pay: Hourly $18.23
Service Responsibilities:
The incumbent is responsible for the following ranges of job duties characteristic, or typical of the job class:
Establishes and monitors preventative maintenance procedures for related equipment; recommends repairs and purchases as required. Performs a number of minor repairs and duties in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, carpentry, plumbing, painting; reports safety concerns and major repairs issues (e.g. furniture and fixtures). Ensures the general upkeep of the facility such as cleaning floors, washrooms, windows, dusting, collects and disposes of garbage, vacuums. Checks, cleans, moves, arranges and dusts furniture as required. Ensures the general upkeep of external property such as mowing lawns, keeping sidewalks clear of snow and ice, cleaning main floor outside windows, picking up litter, sweeping sidewalks, gardening/watering and pruning shrubs, raking. Checks doors and windows to ensure building and resident security; provides access to the facility and secures the facility as needed. Restocks washroom supplies and distributes received material as required. Spot washes accessible walls, strips and waxes floors and shampoos carpets as required. Monitor and maintain mixed cleaner bottles for custodial, front line and kitchen staff use. Ensure that all bottles contain WHMIS compliant labeling. Participate in the creation of a preventative maintenance program for the Lighthouse. Participate in the creation of a policies and procedure manual for the position. Order all janitorial and residential supplies. Submit for approval all purchase orders for external supplies, tools, maintenance or repairs. Maintain supplies and maintenance costs according to the program budget. Keep a log of all building maintenance and repairs. Be an active member of the Joint Health & Safety Committee. Maintain an accurate inventory of all supplies. Refer all Resident inquiries to front desk staff or Case Worker. Report to the supervisor new equipment that is required or broken equipment, which needs to be repaired or replaced. Other duties as requested by the Director and/or supervisor.

Responsibilities

Adhere to standards that are consistent with the values & philosophy of The Salvation Army and the Halton Lighthouse. Read and follow the Employee Handbook and Residential Policy & Procedures. As required and as applicable, make suggestions that will improve efficiency, working conditions or procedures to Management. Participate in regular direct supervision with immediate supervisor and comply by attending to noted areas needing improvement to ensure maximum job performance. Participate in yearly formal evaluation. Represent The Salvation Army Lighthouse in a professional manner at all times. Be punctual and work all hours scheduled, advising immediate supervisor anytime this is not possible. Participate in staff development as required. Work as an effective member of The Lighthouse team, whether staff members or volunteers. Work within agency fire safety, health & safety and emergency procedures.
This Position Description will be reviewed and/or amended as required to meet prevailing requirements of the Ministry contract and/or The Salvation Army on a regular basis as deemed necessary.
