Process customer purchases accurately and efficiently, handling cash, checks, and credit card transactions in accordance with company policies. Monitor customer lines and request additional cashier support when more than two customers are waiting or transactions are taking longer than expected. Provide assistance to customers by answering questions, directing them to products, and answering phone inquiries. Help prevent shrink by assisting fellow cashiers in spotting items on carts or undercarriages that may be overlooked. Keep the register area clean and stocked with necessary supplies such as bags, receipt paper, and pens. Maintain regular and punctual attendance, which is an essential function of this position. Ensure a safe and secure environment for both customers and employees through attentiveness and adherence to safety practices. Represent Norfolk Hardware and Norfolk Kitchen & Bath professionally at all times and address all customer interactions with a courteous and positive attitude. Requirements Candidates will have the following experience & knowledge: Strong verbal communication and customer service skills in both face-to-face and phone interactions. Ability to work effectively as part of a team with minimal supervision. Basic computer proficiency, including the use of point-of-sale (POS) systems. Capability to assist customers with product questions and inquiries. Basic math skills for handling cash and processing transactions. Accurate handling of various payment types including cash, credit, and checks. Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service or cashier role. Experience in a hardware store or similar retail environment is preferred. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Must maintain a neat, professional appearance and demeanor. Ability to operate a computer, view screens, and use a keyboard and mouse. Able to communicate clearly and verbally with customers. Capable of reading small print on price tags and computer screens. Occasionally required to lift and move up to 25 lbs. May occasionally be exposed to outdoor weather conditions.
