JOB OVERVIEW

We are seeking a skilled professional to develop and secure a customized, permanent office or administrative role for a recent university graduate. The ideal outcome is a position where the graduate’s organizational, computer, and people skills are fully utilized - ideally within a workplace whose values align with social justice, equity, and community contribution. This is a temporary position that will conclude once the graduate has been hired by an employer that they’re enthusiastic about working for, is in line with their career goals and they feel fully integrated into the workplace.

EXPERIENCE

  • Experience in customized employment, job creation, recruitment, or related fields.
  • No experience working in disability services.
  • Values based in the right of people with intellectual disabilities be included, valued and belong in their communities.
  • Strong persuasive communication skills and ability to connect with employers confidently.
  • Clear understanding that inclusion is a natural element of healthy workplace culture, and confidence to communicate this with others.
  • Flexible schedule to coordinate with the graduate’s availability and meetings.
  • Comfortable working both remotely and in person; able to meet via Zoom and occasionally in-person with the graduate.
  • A completed Criminal Record Check, including a vulnerable sector check.
  • (Preferred) Familiarity with UBC or strong professional connections to the institution, as the graduate would like to work there..
  • (Optional) Comfortable in the presence of dogs, as the graduate has one and you may meet at their home sometimes.

Responsibilities
  • · Identify and engage potential employers, advocating for a customized role that matches the graduate’s skills, education, and career aspirations.
  • Collaborate with the graduate to refine job search strategies, prepare for employer meetings, and explore opportunities in values-aligned workplaces.
  • Support the graduate to collaborate with the employer to design or adapt a position that meets both organizational needs and the graduate’s strengths.
  • Support onboarding by clarifying workplace processes, growing connections with co-workers, and ensuring inclusion is part of everyday workplace culture.
  • Provide practical guidance to supervisors and colleagues so the graduate becomes a natural part of the team.
