Description

£35,000 - £40,000 (FLEXIBLE DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE)

A leading logistics company is seeking a proactive and dynamic Logistics & Customs Assistant Manager to support the day-to-day operations of their Logistics, Freight Forwarding, and Customs team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone with strong leadership skills and a customer-first mindset to make a real impact in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
This role offers a diverse and hands-on remit, acting as the deputy to the Logistics & Customs Manager and stepping up in their absence. It combines operational oversight with strategic input across logistics, customs, and customer service.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing relationships with both customers and third-party logistics providers, identifying opportunities for service improvement, and supporting business development. Strong leadership is essential, with the ability to supervise staff, manage workload distribution, and foster a high-performance culture.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure seamless delivery of logistics and customs services to customers.
  • Support and guide the team to maintain high standards of service and compliance.
  • Act as the key point of contact for bulk, steel, customs, and automotive customers when required.
  • Oversee account management and workload distribution within the team.
  • Identify and follow up on new business opportunities in collaboration with the commercial team.
  • Liaise with ports, transport providers, and rail operators to ensure smooth operations.
  • Monitor and improve service margins, resolve invoice queries, and optimise efficiencies.
  • Maintain accurate customs, VAT, storage, and discharge reports.
  • Drive continuous improvement across systems and processes.
  • Support the use of IT systems for planning, delivery, and performance tracking.
