The Cut/Fabrication Welder employee is responsible for fabricating a sound structure with a high-quality finished product while ensuring safety standards are met. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The essential duties and responsibilities of this job are included but not limited to this job description – other tasks may be assigned and expected to be performed. Ensure compliance with safety protocols by wearing protective gloves, weld hood, masks, and boots. Operate hand-welding and flame-cutting equipment such as oxyacetylene torch & electric arc machine. Ability to read blueprints and drawings to identify welding measurements and position. Conduct assessments to determine appropriate equipment to use. Utilize plasma, gas or electric arc in welding metallic and composite materials together. Use power saws, chipping knife, drills, saws and hand shears in cutting, beveling, and contouring metal workpieces. Repair structures by dismantling, reshaping, and reassembling metal components using cutting tools and hand tools. Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of local and international building codes/legal requirements. Monitor work equipment to ensure usage is within specifications. Prepare metal surfaces by cleaning with chemical solutions and wire brushes to remove impurities such as scale, rust, grease, and moisture. Design patterns and models for project using specifications contained in a blueprint. Mount and secure workpieces on production equipment using cranes, hoists or banding machines. Must be able to read & use tape measures. Perform other duties as assigned. Requirements High School Diploma or equivalent. 2+ years previous welding in an industrial manufacturing shop. Experience operating jigs and fixtures for fabrication of subassemblies. Understand AutoCAD drawings and specifications as shown on drawings for the purpose of fabrication. Ability to operate various shop machinery safely (i.e. Punch, shear, drill press, grinders, cutting torch, and miscellaneous hand tools.) Carpenter’s Millwright Journeyman status preferred. Must make application to the Carpenter’s Millwright Union within 1st 30 days if not a member. Must have previous experience in a cut/fab welding position in an industrial manufacturing shop. Cut/Fabrication welding experience. Able to read blueprints & drawings to identify welding measurements & position.
