Your role at St John of God Health Care As a Cyber Defence Engineer, you will be at the heart of our security operations helping to protect, detect, and respond to cyber threats across the organisation. You will be building, operating, and continuously improving cybersecurity tools and processes. This mid-level role combines hands-on technical work with continuous improvement, supporting our security engineering and operations capabilities. You will collaborate with skilled professionals to enhance our defences, optimise tools and processes, and ensure our digital environment remains secure, compliant, and resilient. The Position Building, operating, and continuously improving cybersecurity tools and processes Ensure the operational effectiveness of core cybersecurity tools, including: SIEM, XDR, EDR, SWG, SEG, VPN, and vulnerability management platforms. Drive continuous improvement of cybersecurity technologies and operational processes. Ensure all controls are current, effectively deployed, and operating as intended. In conjunction with the MSSP and Cyber Defence Team, oversee day-to-day security operations. Ensure the timely detection, analysis, and resolution of security incidents and breaches. Coordinate with internal teams and external vendors to investigate and remediate incidents effectively. Participate in cybersecurity simulations, tabletop, and desktop exercises to evaluate and enhance readiness. Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the cyber threat landscape, particularly within the health sector and related industries. You will have the ability to communicate with technical and business stakeholders, be knowledgeable with contemporary devsecops practices and be passionate about technological trends/developments in the areas of digital security. To succeed you will be Tertiary qualified in Information Systems, Security or a related discipline, or have at least three years’ experience in equivalent roles. You will also hold relevant Security Certifications (CSEC ,CEH, OSCP, vendor certifications, etc.).
