POSITION SUMMARY: Jasper County is seeking a skilled and motivated Cyber Security Analyst to join our IT team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in information technology and a passion for security to safeguard our network and information systems. In this role, you will monitor, analyze, and respond to security threats, ensuring the integrity and confidentiality of County data.

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

· Technical Skills: Strong understanding of networking, operating systems, security protocols, and security tools.
· Analytical Skills:Ability to analyze security events, identify patterns, and assess risks.
· Problem-Solving Skills:Capacity to troubleshoot security issues and develop effective solutions.
· Communication Skills: Ability to clearly communicate security risks and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.
· Attention to Detail: Meticulousness in monitoring systems, analyzing logs, and documenting security incidents.
· Familiarity with security tools (e.g., SIEM, antivirus software) and frameworks (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
· Strong analytical skills with the ability to analyze complex security issues and develop effective responses.
· Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams.
· Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CEH, Network+)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ability to read, write and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
  • The position may require occasional after-hours support for critical incidents.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Cyber Security, or a related field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in IT or cyber security roles, with a solid understanding of networking, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.

Responsibilities

· Monitor security systems for unusual activity, alerts, and intrusion attempts.
· Conduct vulnerability assessments and risk analyses to identify potential security weaknesses.
· Investigate security incidents and breaches, providing detailed reports and recommendations for remediation.
· Collaborate with IT staff to implement security measures, policies, and protocols.
· Conduct regular security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
· Stay updated on the latest cybersecurity threats, trends, and technologies.
· Assist in the development and refinement of security awareness training for county employees.
· Other cyber related functions along with CJIS audits.
