Description
Job Description Powering a smarter, more secure future. At Vector, we’re building the future of energy, smarter, cleaner, and increasingly digital. As our technology landscape evolves, so does our Cyber Security Operations Centre (SOC). We’re moving toward a more automated, agentic, and intelligence driven SOC and we’re looking for our next Cyber Security Analyst who wants to be part of that journey. If you’re curious, enjoy complex problem solving and thrive in environments where cyber, automation, and engineering intersect, this is your opportunity to help reshape how Vector defends critical infrastructure across electricity, gas and fibre. The Role As a Cyber Security Analyst, you’ll play a pivotal role in detecting, analysing, and responding to security events across cloud, operational technology (OT), data platforms and enterprise systems. You’ll work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, taking ownership of issues end-to-end, communicating clearly, and driving high quality outcomes. You’ll be joining us at an exciting point in our SOC evolution. This means you won’t just operate tools: you’ll help shape how we defend, respond, and continuously improve - making this a great opportunity for someone energised by advancing their craft as the threat landscape shifts and new technologies emerge. What You’ll Do Identify, investigate, analyse, and resolve security incidents across a diverse environment. Contribute to our transition toward an automated, agentic SOC using scripting, coding, and modern cyber engineering approaches. Remediate vulnerabilities and exposures identified through assessments, scanning or testing. Engage directly with internal customers and stakeholders, owning issues end-to-end (“Own it” and “Consider it done”). Work with service partners to maintain lifecycle management of security technologies. Configure, tune, and enhance SOC tools including SIEM, endpoint security, cloud security platforms, firewalls, and web/email security controls. Identify opportunities to automate repeatable tasks and uplift SOC efficiency through scripting, integrations and detection engineering. Contribute to security reviews, risk assessments, change governance, and documentation. Apply defensive and threat informed thinking, supporting our evolution toward a purple team capability. What You’ll Bring We’re looking for someone with demonstrated SOC experience, who understands how modern SOCs operate and is excited by where they’re heading. Previous experience in a SOC or defensive cyber role. Experience in automated SOC environments, agentic tooling, or infrastructure-as-code approaches (highly advantageous) - or a strong interest in developing skills in this area. Proficiency in at least one programming/scripting language (Python, PowerShell, Go). Exposure to SIEM, firewalls, web/email security, endpoint protection, and cloud security tooling. Demonstrated experience with Akamai, Check Point, Rapid7, AWS security, or control systems security (a bonus). You are also someone who: Collaborates naturally, enjoys working alongside others, and contributes to a supportive team environment where knowledge is shared freely. Takes responsibility and follows through, ensuring tasks are completed and issues are resolved with care and diligence. Communicates clearly and confidently, building strong relationships with internal customers and helping them understand complex security matters with ease. Why Vector? At Vector, you’ll join a team of cyber specialists who are committed to doing things differently. You’ll help shape the future state of a SOC that is: increasingly automated and intelligence driven, shifting toward purple team capability, embedded in a business with major OT, cloud, and data environments, critical to the security of Auckland’s energy infrastructure. You’ll also enjoy flexible working, development opportunities, and a culture that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. Ready to shape the future of Cyber at Vector? If you’re excited by the chance to work in a SOC that is evolving - and you want to be part of designing what comes next - we’d love to hear from you. Additional Information We know that some people may hesitate to apply if they don’t meet every single requirement. If this role excites you, we encourage you to apply anyway - your skills, enthusiasm, and unique perspective could be just what we’re looking for. Vector values diversity in all its forms and welcomes people of all backgrounds, experiences, identities and abilities to be part of our team. Engagement type: Permanent - Employee Department: Cyber Security
Responsibilities
As a Cyber Security Analyst, you will detect, analyze, and respond to security events across various systems. You will also contribute to the evolution of the SOC by automating processes and enhancing security measures.
