[https://www.vu.edu.au/strategic-plan/#page=1] One of the drivers “Thriving place to Study and Work” will enable us to continue to create places that our students and staff love to belong and feel immense pride.   About the Team:  The Cyber Security team sits within Digital and Campus Services (DCS), providing strategic direction and operational capability to secure the University’s digital platforms, systems, networks and data, overseeing the development, implementation and enforcement of security controls, governance, testing, and risk frameworks while enabling broader digital transformation objectives   About the Role:  The Cyber Security & Assurance Officer plays a key role in safeguarding the University’s information assets by monitoring, detecting, and responding to cyber threats while supporting the development, implementation, and optimisation of security controls, governance, risk and compliance activities, and contributing to continuous improvement of the University’s overall security and assurance posture   Position Key Duties  * Monitor, detect and analyse cyber security alerts to identify potential threats and coordinate responses with internal teams and external partners.  * Support frontline cyber defence operations, contributing to daily security activities and ensuring adherence to established protocols.  * Assist in managing and optimising security tools and platforms, including the implementation and maintenance of technical security controls.  * Contribute to vulnerability management, ensuring vulnerabilities are communicated, tracked and remediated with relevant technology custodians.  * Support governance, risk and compliance activities, including audits, evidence collection, policy updates and compliance reporting.  * Liaise with the University’s SOC partner and external vendors to support monitoring, escalation and incident response activities.    Salary:  HEP 9 - $132,942 - $138,314 – Plus 17% Super Employment Type: Fixed Term – 2 Years  Hours:  36.75/1 FTE Location: Footscray Park Campus – 3 days on site.   For a detailed overview of the role’s duties and responsibilities, please refer to the Position Description – Cyber Security & Assurance Officer [https://webresources.vu.edu.au/hr/employment/pdf/2026/347_HEP%205%20-%20Cyber%20Security%20&%20Assurance%20Officer.pdf]   About You:  You are a motivated and curious emerging cyber security professional with a solid understanding of core security principles, experience working with security technologies, and a genuine desire to continuously grow your technical capability.
